Dr. McDougall's New Light Sodium Soups

Dr. Mcdougall's Light Sodium Soups might be just the thing to add to your shopping cart next time you're in the grocery store.

The six Dr. McDougall's Light Sodium Soups have 330 to 360 milligrams of sodium -- that is far less than the usual 500 to 1,500mg per serving for single-serve containers. But you would never know it from the taste. There is not a hint of blandness in these soups. Plus, all the ingredients are vegetarian (vegan, even) and free of bad fats.

The Lentil Couscous, made with whole grain couscous and curried Middle Eastern flair, packs an impressive (for soup) 12 grams of protein and an impressive 9 grams of fiber. The smoky, warm-your-insides Split Pea is in the same ballpark, while the White Bean and Pasta supplies 7 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber.

You'll find less fiber and protein in the Tomato Basil Pasta. Ditto for the Chicken flavor Noodle and Chinese Chicken Flavor Noodle. But both taste surprisingly genuine, considering that no chickens were harmed in the making of the soups.

Just add boiling water to turn them into lunch or a snack that would please both you and your doctor.

If you cannot find Dr. McDougall's in your local store(s), you can order from the web site, RightFoods.com.
