Bistro Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese by Kraft

Bistro Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese by Kraft now offers a macaroni and cheese mix that comes in the following flavors:

  • Classic Cheddar
  • Three Cheese Italiano
  • Creamy Portobello Mushrrom
  • Sundried Tomato Parmesan

Kraft describes these dishes as, "Delicious. Distinguished. Delightful."

Well, maybe so but... Kraft's sophistication comes at a price to your waistline, never mind your pocketbook.

The mac 'n cheese packages contain three, 1-cup servings. If you eat just that one-cup serving, you'll be getting:

  • 300 calories
  • 6-1/2 grams of fat (one-third of a day's allotment)
  • 800 to 929 milligrams of sodium (half a day's allotment)

In addition to the other claims by Kraft, they also state that Bistro Deluxe is "A Good Source of Whole Grain"; however, the FDA has asked the food industry not to make that claim. In addition, Bistro's 9 grams of whole grain per serving are not much when the dry pasta in that serving weighs about 50 grams. In other words, 80 percent of that pasta is refined; only 20 percent is actually whole-grain.

Perhaps "damaging" is a better word to describe this dish, eat with caution!
