Classico Alfredo Sauces

Classico Alfredo Sauces

A lot of "bad-for-you".

Only 110 calories and five grams of saturated fat; doesn't sound bad on the surface; however, that's for a tiny quarter-cup serving.

Double the serving to a more-realistic half-cup of sauce over the average serving size of two cups of pasta and the damage comes into focus:

  • 19 grams of total fat (ten of which are bad for your heart)
  • more than a third of a day's sodium

Make it Heart Healthy

Try making your own Alfredo using Land O Lakes rich-tasting Fat Free Half and Half.

Homemade Alfredo Sauce

Melt a tablespoon of tub butter in a saucepan over medium heat and stir in a tablespoon of all-purpose flour until smooth and bubbly.

Gradually stir in a half-cup of the fat free half and half and continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens. Toss in some crushed garlic and fresh parsley, sprinkle with a little Parmesan, and you've got your own heart-healthy Classico.
