Dove squeezes some 300 calories and an average of 11 grams of saturated fat, which is one-half of a day's worth, into a serving of ice cream the size of a tennis ball, or one-half a cup.
This puts Dove in the same places as Ben & Jerry's Haagen-Dazs.
The names such as "Unconditional Chocolate" appears to be an attempt to link chocolate with romance -- but romance could be far less dangerous to your heart than this ice cream!
A Better Dove
We can no longer find the Irresistibly Raspberry ice cream and while researching, discovered a few changes at Dove.
Dove now offers three flavors of ice cream with a bit less calories and fat (including the aforementioned Unconditional Chocolate).
- Dove Unconditional Chocolate now weighs in at 200 calories per one-half cup and 12 grams of fat.
- Dove Vanilla Chocolate Chunk weighs in at 180 calories per one-half cup and 11 grams of fat.
- Dove Mint Chocolate Chunk weighs in at 180 calories per one-half cup with 11 grams of fat.
Dove Bar Miniatures. Those are getting back up there in fat and calories. For example, the Miniatures Variety Pack with Dark Chocolate contains 320 calories per serving (5 pieces) and 21 grams of fat. Ouch.
FYI: The cover of the box of mini's tells you how many calories per piece, but doesn't mention that a serving is 5 pieces.
One thing we can't take away from Dove though ... they do make awfully good ice cream treats and chocolate. Just enjoy in moderation.
