Fried Bananas

Fried Bananas

First, bananas in and of themselves are, quite literally, a nutritional powerhouse.

But...frying them isn't always a good idea for your waistline!

All Natural?

There are "all natural" banana slices you can purchase that are fried, sweetened and pumped up with "natural banana flavor" instead of a 100-calorie fresh banana.

Each modest 1/4-cup serving supplies 150 calories. Not too bad - and another bonus is that there is ZERO trans fat in these.

BUT...

Of the eight grams of fat in each serving, seven are saturated. (Note: A McDonald's Quarter Pounder has eight grams of saturated fat).

Danielle Crispy Fruit Chips

Danielle Crispy Fruit Chips If you'd like to purchase fried bananas, Danielle Crispy Fruit Chips, Honey Banana would be the next best thing. They are made with fresh bananas and fried in palm oil. They are all natural and contain no trans fat.

A Better Idea

Grilled or fried bananas can be very good for breakfast or for a dessert so here's a way to get that taste without all that fat:

  • Use a non stick pan or a tiny bit of olive oil or cooking spray and grill the bananas until they're get a translucent yellow.
  • Add a tablespoon or 2 of maple syrup and cinnamon. It'll caramelize pretty quickly and get nice and crispy-crunchy.

These are especially delicious served with pancakes or French toast!
