Be Good to Yourself
On the Smoothie King web site: "Be good to yourself".
This would appear to be a means of using the fact that many people hear the word "Smoothie" and instantly think "healthy".
But let's consider one of the original "Snack Right" choices, the Grape Expectations II, one of Smoothie King's smoothie's containing 550 calories in a 20-ounce size. They also have a 40-ounce smoothie available. That one contains about 1,100 calories - for this "smoothie snack".
And how about that "Hulk Strawberry" weighing in at 1,035 calories, 32 grams of artery clogging fat with 13 saturated grams of fat. Of course, this one is classified in their "Build Up" category, so they're assessing it fairly accurately....
But getting back to the "Snack Right" - there are some here that aren't too bad; actually have zero fat, although calories and sugar are on the high side for a beverage.
Among the healthiest at the time of this writing - that we found - is the Yerba Mate Mixed Berry Smoothie, which falls under their "Stay Healthy" category. It weighs in at 348 calories, 0 fat (and 0 sat. fat), only 2 calories from fat, 1 gram of cholesterol, 84g carbs, 2g protein, only 22g sodium and 3g healthy fiber.
And berries always add their own sweet succulence, while Yerba Mate is considered the "drink of the gods" in South America for centuries and is drunk daily for optimum health, sustained energy and mental clarity.
