Pu'erh Tea
Puerh (pronounced POO-urr) Tea is a type of tea made from a "large leaf" variety of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. It is named after Pu'er county near Simao, Yunnan, China.
The history of Puerh tea begins over 1,000 years ago. During the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) China began exporting tea to nations such as Mongolia, Tibet, Burma and the Middle East. To make tea easier to carry, the loose leaves were compressed into various sizes and shapes such as disks/cakes, bricks, or bowls. The traditional methods of crafting Puerh tea continue to this day.
Known in China as the "Wonder tea", Pu'erh is smooth, rich and organic - and tastes like no other tea on planet earth. Like yogurt, Pu'erh is a "living" tea, meaning it contains microbes, making it a great digestive aid and the very reason for all the health benefits associated with Peurh.
Unlike other teas that should ideally be consumed shortly after production, pu-erh can be drunk immediately or aged for many years. This means you can stock up and not concern yourself that it will go bad! Like fine wine, pu'erh improves as it ages.
Puerh tea begins with a similar flavor to green teas. Over time the leaves transform from green to amber and finally to a dark teak, therefore the name Black tea. Young Puerh teas are bright and refreshing. Their flavor and aroma can be warm and citric to grassy and herbal. As Puerh ages, significant layers of flavors evolve. Fruit notes ripen, and aromas of exotic woods develop over the years.
We all should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day...everyone has heard this over and over. Well, tea is made from water so why not get your weightloss aid and your water in one fell swoop? Six glasses of Peurh Tea a day will satisfy both needs.
In addition to aiding weightloss efforts, drinking pu-erh tea is purported to reduce blood cholesterol. This belief has been backed up by scientific studies. It is also widely believed in Chinese cultures to counteract the unpleasant effects of heavy alcohol consumption.
