MYTH: Chocolate milk is high in sugar and calories.
FACT: A soda or juice drink contains nearly twice the amount of sugar as chocolate milk. The chocolate that is added to the milk does not add a lot of calories. On average, chocolate milk provides about 60 more calories per serving compared to non-flavored milk. This difference fits easily into the average daily diet.

MYTH: Chocolate milk is just for kids.
FACT: Chocolate milk is for adults as much as it is for kids. In fact, it is the perfect way to satisfy the chocolate craving without worrying about fat and calories.

More Reasons to Eat Chocolate

We know that dark chocolate cocoa powder has up to three times the antioxidants found in Green tea, plus twice the antioxidants in red wine; that's good for your heart. And studies have shown that dark chocolate's polyphenols affect serotonin levels in the brain; that'll boost your mood.

But dark chocolate has gained even more favor in medical circles. In one study, heart-transplant patients showed a decreased risk of clogged arteries two hours after consuming 40 grams of dark chocolate. In another, researchers from the University of Illinois found that subjects who ate a 22 grams of a dark chocolate bar daily for two months lowered their blood pressure and cholesterol levels. And investigation is underway to see if dark chocolate can be used to decrease PMS symptoms. Sweet news!

Dark Chocolate Fights Hunger

Chocolate isn't great for your waistline - two bites pack in about 50 calories - but the dark kind may help you feel fuller, University of Copenhagen researchers say. They found that people who ate dark chocolate had fewer cravings afterward than those who ate milk chocolate.

The reason: Dark chocolate's bitter taste might help the body regulate appetite, or its higher amount of cocoa butter (it has stearic acid, which can slow digestion) may make the stomach stay full longer.
