Apples and Cream Shake Recipe

Milk

Ingredients:
2 cups vanilla low-fat ice cream
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or apple pie spice
1 cup fat free skim or 1% lowfat milk
Ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions:

In a blender container combine low-fat ice cream, applesauce, and the 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie spice.

Cover and blend until smooth. Add fat free skim or 1-percent lowfat milk. Cover and blend until just mixed.

Pour into glasses. If desired, sprinkle each serving with additional cinnamon. Serve immediately.

Recipe makes 4 (8-ounce) servings.

Nutritional facts: 148 cal., 5 g pro., 29 g carbo., 2 g fat, 6 mg chol., 1 g dietary fiber, and 98 mg sodium. Daily Value: 21 percent calcium.

Bonus Recipe: Apple Pie Spice Mix

Ingredients:
1/4 cup ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon ground allspice 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg* 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1/2 tsp ground cardamom (optional)

Directions:
Combine all ingredients for desired mix and blend well. Store in a small, airtight container. Feel free to experiment with amounts to get a blend that works for you.

*If using fresh ground nutmeg, use a bit less until you find the amount that suits your taste. Nutmeg is quite potent.
