Banana Breakfast Shake

The banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. If you want a quick fix for flagging energy levels, there is no better snack than a banana - in a Banana Breakfast Shake.

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups fat free or 1 percent low fat milk
1 peeled and sliced medium banana, frozen*
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Cinnamon for garnish, optional

Directions

In a blender container, combine all ingredients, except cinnamon. Blend until smooth, about 20 seconds.

Pour into glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired.

* Wrap sliced banana in plastic wrap or place in a freezer storage bag. Freeze several hours or overnight.

Soy milk, extracted from pureed fresh soybeans, has a taste similar to that of cow's milk. For this cool, light and delicious treat, you will need to peel and freeze the bananas ahead of time.

1-1/2 bananas, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch rounds, frozen
1 cup light (1 percent) soy milk
1-cup ice cubes
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Blueberry Buttermilk Milkshake with Starfruit Garnish

Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into 2 glasses and serve immediately. Recipe makes two servings.

Bonus 2 - Super Summer Shake: Blueberry Buttermilk Milkshake

To lighten up on calories and fat, use low-fat ice cream and low-fat buttermilk - or even fat free, if desired!

Simmer 1 cup blueberries, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice until syrupy; cool. Blend with 1 pint vanilla ice cream and 1/4 cup buttermilk.
