This Spiced Apple Cider Mix recipe will fit in a pint jar or container: pack firmly and be sure lid fits tightly. The four spices used together, along with the cider mix, help create a warming, soothing beverage for cold days or nights!
Below the recipe is an image depicting a very, VERY old recipe I found in my grandmother's vast recipe collection. I typed it out exactly as she had it written.
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1-1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground mace
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight container.
To make one mug of Apple Cider:
Add 1 cup hot apple cider and 1 tablespoon Spiced Apple Cider Mix.
For safety reasons, avoid unpasteurized apple cider because it can contain harmful bacteria - all unpasteurized juices carry a government warning label.
Recipe makes 32 servings.
Variation: Mulled Apple Cider
Mulled apple cider is really at its best after it simmers slowly on the stove. It is well worth the wait for the flavors of spices and citrus to infuse the cider.
Place all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 12 minutes. Pour through a strainer and serve or cover and refrigerate for up to 4 days. Gently reheat when ready to serve. 4 servings.
