Did You Know?
Today's mince meat pie(s) contain no meat, sometimes no alcohol, and is a sad salute to the one-time very manly, beefy pie of days gone by. The "real" mince meat comprised several classic Christmas elements: Goose, venison, or beef, seasonal apples, dried fruit, cider, molasses, and candied, spiced and/or diced peel and doused in brandy. The concoction was then baked in a golden crust.
