Use your choice of butter or margarine and add cocoa, sugar, evaporated milk and vanilla extract for Favorite Chocolate Sauce. We prefer butter for a variety of reasons; however, most of all it does taste best in this recipe.
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup organic cocoa powder
1-3/4 cup sugar
Dash of salt
1 12-ounce can fat free evaporated milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Place butter in medium-size microwave-safe bowl or 4-cup glass measure. Microwave on high 1 to 1-1/2-minutes or until melted. Add cocoa; stir until smooth. Add sugar, salt and evaporated milk; stir until well blended.
Microwave on high about five minutes, stirring occasionally, or until mixture comes to a boil. Beat with whisk until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Cool slightly. Serve warm sauce over cake, ice cream or other desserts. Cover and refrigerate leftover sauce.
Note: This is a thin sauce. To reheat, microwave on high power a few seconds at a time until warm.
