Jello - A Long Time Favorite!

Tasty Jell-O Tidbits

  • Spice up your strawberry or orange Jell-O Gelatin with a bit of cinnamon.
  • Grate fresh nutmeg over Jell-O vanilla pudding, or over a hot fruit dessert topped with Cool Whip Whipped Topping (preferably lite or fat free if watching your weight).
  • Tasty Tip: Top Jell-O brand pudding snacks with Teddy Graham's graham snacks and miniature marshmallows for an added tasty crunch and a blast of low-calorie sweetness.
  • Always use canned or cooked pineapple in gelatin salads. Fresh pineapple and kiwi fruit will prevent the salad from setting.

Nutrition Nibbles

Unflavored gelatin - a key ingredient in JELL-O - is in fact an animal product that confers a number of excellent health benefits. In the autism community, for example, it is a popular remedy to help heal leaky gut syndrome (where the walls of the large intestine are porous), and studies have also found gelatin to be helpful in treating joint and tendon conditions.

Jello For the Sweet Tooth

Jello Mold

  • Lime diet jello: Two packages to three cups water with a scoop of cottage cheese
  • Two packages to three cups water, chilled until thickened but not set and one-third cup of whipping cream whipped into the jello until it has a souffle consistency. Makes six servings
  • Orange diet jello: Prepare as above, but add one-half teaspoon of vanilla and one-quarter teaspoon of almond extract along with whipping cream. Chill until set.Looks and tastes a lot like cantaloupe. Add a scoop of cottage cheese if desired. Lime diet jello prepared the same way, but with one-half teaspoon of lemon extract. Tastes a lot like key lime pie!
  • Fast and Fruity Jell-O Clouds. Spoon 4 Jell-O strawberry sugar-free gelatin snacks into 4 dessert cups; top with 2 drained can mandarin oranges. Top each with 2 tablespoons Lite Cool Whip.

Jell-O Tip

Never use fresh pineapple in a gelatin mold or the protein will be broken down and the gelatin will not gel. This is caused by the chemical bromelain, a potent protein tenderizer.

Jello: Did you know?

Cranberry Jell-O is the only flavor of Jell-O derived from genuine fruit, rather than artificial flavoring.

Nine boxes of JELL-O gelatin are sold every second in the United States.
