Cajun Corn

Love Cajun Corn

Cajun Corn is what could be called a rustic cuisine, one that uses locally available ingredients and keeps preparation simple. The aromatic vegetables bell pepper (poivron), onion, and celery are called by some chefs the holy trinity of Creole and Cajun cuisines.

Ingredients

2-1/2 quarts popped popcorn
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon lemon pepper

Directions

Pour butter over warm popcorn.

Combine remaining seasonings and sprinkle over popcorn; toss to mix.

Bake in 300-degree oven for crispy popcorn.

Nutrition Information

Recipe makes 2-1/2-quarts.

Variation: Cajun Popcorn

Bowl of popcorn 8 cups hot, plain popped popcorn
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons canola oil

Place popped corn in a large bowl. In small saucepan, heat oil over medium heat for 1 minute then stir in all spices. Reduce to low and cook for 1 minute. Pour mixture over popcorn and toss to evenly coat.
