Curry Powder

Curry Powder

Curry derives from kari, a Tamil word meaning sauce and referring to various kinds of dishes with vegetables and/or meat common in South India. The curry dish is usually eating with rice.

Curry Powder contains curcumin, which is helpful in treating painful inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons ground coriander
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons turmeric
1-1/2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cumin
3/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cloves

*Can use Morton Lite Salt or Sea Salt if preferred.

Directions

Mix all together until well mixed.

Store in an airtight container.

Recipe makes 1/3 cup.

Notes

Curcumin, which gives the curry spice tumeric its bright yellow color, could be helpful in treating painful inflammatory conditions, such as tendinitis and arthritis, according to researchers at the University of Nottingham in the U.K. Researchers at UCLA have shown that the curry pigment curcumin slows the formation of, and even destroys, accumulated plaque deposits which can lead to Alzheimer's Disease.
