Healthy Appetizer/Snack Recipe

Forget the peanut butter! This tasty blend of ground almonds, pear nectar, brown sugar and spices is much lower in fat and calories. Serve with assorted fruits and vegetables for dipping.

Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups natural almonds (about 8 ounces)
3/4 cup pear nectar or apple juice
1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions

Combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth.

Serve with assorted cut-up fruits and vegetables.

Recipe makes 1-1/4 cups dip.

Notable Note: Almond butter is a nutritious and hearty topping for bagels or muffins and it's a snap to make at home. Just chop whole natural almonds in a food processor and blend with a little vegetable oil and salt and until almost smooth.
