Old Fashioned Dressing

Old Fashioned Dressing

Old fashioned dressing tastes just like the stuffing grandma made but the use of whole wheat breads ups the nutrition ante.

4 tablespoons butter
2 cups  diced celery
1 cup chopped onion
8 cups bread cubes, dried from whole wheat bread
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
1 teaspoon ground sage
3/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 cups broth, chicken or turkey

Directions

Toast bread cubes and set aside for later use.

Melt butter in medium size fry pan. Add celery and onion; cook until tender, about 10 minutes.

Add parsley, mushrooms, seasoning and broth. Cook for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and add the toasted bread cubes. Cover and let stand 10 minutes. Serve immediately.

Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.
