Apricot Orange Quick Bread

Dried apricots in Apricot Orange Quick Bread

This is a quick and easy Apricot Orange Quick Bread recipe. It makes a delicious loaf that is both sweet and tart and has just a touch of chocolate sprinkled throughout. Walnuts add crunch, but are optional for those with nut allergies or those who just don't care for nuts.


2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup soft butter
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup egg substitute or 1 egg
1-1/2 cup chopped dried apricots
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda, set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter or margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the orange juice, milk and egg; beat well. Gradually blend in the flour mixture. Stir in the apricots, chocolate chips and walnuts. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

Cool loaf in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Did You Know?

While fresh apricots are tops nutritionally, don't discount dried apricots and canned apricots. Canned apricots provide much nutrition despite some losses in vitamin C and potassium during processing.
