Beer Bread

Beer bread

Beer Bread is a tasty bread that needs no yeast. Just flour, salt, beer, baking powder and honey.


3 cups flour
2-1/4 teaspoon salt
12 oz beer
3-3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon honey


Grease loaf pan. Mix flour, salt, baking powder.

Combine with beer and honey in large bowl. Stir together until well mixed.

Spread batter in pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until browned and a wooden pick comes out clean.

Turn bread out onto a cooling rack.

Note: Cool completely before slicing.

Recipe makes 1 9-inch loaf.

Variation: Beer Bread with Cheese

This is a no yeast bread which is quite simple to make. Self rising flour, a bit of sugar, Cheddar cheese, a can of beer and butter are all you need. A dark beer will give you a darker bread with a heavier flavor.

Beer bread with cheese

3 cups self rising flour
6 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 12-ounce can beer
1 stick butter, softened

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13-inch bread pan.

In a large bowl, hand mix all ingredients except butter. Spoon dough into the pan and bake for 45 minutes.

Remove bread and rub with butter until all butter is melted. Return to oven and bake 15 more minutes.

Recipe makes 16 servings.
