Carmelized Chicken Wings

Carmelized chicken wings make for a sweet and tangy chicken appetizer or snack that will not pack in fat and calories.


3 pounds chicken wings
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 cup honey
1 clove garlic
Salt and black pepper to taste


Place about 3 pounds of chicken wings into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.

In a small bowl, mix together:

2-tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 2-tablespoons ketchup, 1 cup honey, 1-clove of garlic (minced), salt and pepper to taste.

Pour over chicken and place in a preheated 375-degree oven for one hour or until sauce is carmelized.

Recipe Note

To save even more fat and calories, use cut-up boneless, skinless chicken breast pieces, for easy homemade carmelized chicken. Eight chicken wing sections that have been baked in the oven contain 300 calories, 20 grams of fat, 27 grams of protein and no carbohydrates or fiber.

Yield: 4 servings

Cola Wings

Combine 1 can cola (12 ounce), 1 cup brown sugar, 1 medium onion chopped finely, 2 cloves garlic (minced), 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a saucepot. Add 1 to 2 pounds chicken wings (depending on size). Bring to a boil, then cook over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes, or until meat is falling off the bone (literally) and sauce is slightly thickened. Serves 2 to 3.
