Sugar, butter and a little bit of salt on hot-air popped popcorn make this Caramelized Sugar Popcorn. Sweet sticky and oh so delicious, especially in fall for a change of pace from just bland popped popcorn!
If you don't have a hot-air popcorn popper, purchase popped popcorn at the supermarket. Just be sure to select a "light" type, and if the purchased popcorn is already salted, omit the salt in this recipe.
1/4 teaspoon salt
10 cups hot-air-popped popcorn
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons butter
Sprinkle salt over popcorn in large bowl; set aside.
Place sugar in Dutch oven. Heat over medium heat, shaking Dutch oven occasionally (do not stir), until sugar starts to melt. Reduce heat to low.
Add butter, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely melted and golden.
Remove from heat. Immediately add popcorn, stirring to coat. Quickly transfer to large bowl; cool.
Recipe makes 10 servings.
